Here are our Top Ten Tips to guarantee...
" Perfect Wedding Hair "
You’ve found the perfect wedding dress, a beautiful venue, an amazing photographer and now all you need is the hair and make-up to make sure those photo’s are perfect too.
So here is our trusted guide on what to look for when choosing a wedding stylist and make-up artist that will bring everything together and finish the look leaving you free to enjoy your special day.
Not all Stylists can do Wedding Hair...
Only a small percentage of stylists specialise in wedding hair, so make sure you find someone who does. If it’s your existing stylist then great but don’t be afraid to ask; you’ll be doing them a favour as some really good hairdressers don’t like the pressure of wedding hair.
Recommendation...
If you or your friends don’t know a wedding hair specialist then a good place to start is to ask people like the photographers; they will have experience of all the local stylists and may be able to recommend one or two. Always get a recommendation but don’t worry, whether it’s Milton Keynes or Manchester, Aberdeen or Aylesbury, there is an expert who loves doing wedding hair in your town.
The Free Consultation...
So let’s say you’ve found a couple of recommended stylists. Now it’s time to book in for a chat! All good salons offer free consultations so use this service to meet all the wedding stylists on your list so that they can really listen to you and understand what you want to achieve. It is also really important that you “like” the stylist as you will be spending lots of time with them and they can really add to the magic of the day.
The Make-Up...
Apply the same criteria to finding a make-up artist and even though the salon you have chosen has a beauty salon that doesn’t necessarily mean that the therapists are wedding make-up specialists. Great make-up can make all the difference and you need to feel sure that the person charged with this responsibility will understand your individual expectation and then actually deliver what you want. And whether that is very natural or a stronger looking make-up it is important that you feel happy on the day.
Timing...
Once you have found the team you feel comfortable with, book the day as far ahead as possible. We have known brides book Saturdays three years in advance! Having booked the day, don’t book the trial too far ahead. As tempting as might be to tick this box there is a risk that if your trial run is weeks and weeks before the big day the stylist or make-up artist may forget what they have done! So just book this about three weeks before.
How Much!
We realise that the combination of on the day hair and make-up along with trials and other services such as nails, facials etc. soon adds up. All I will say is, your wedding photo’s are forever, and you want to look at them as a reminder of your special day and not the wedding hair from hell... most salons offer a wedding package with a discount which all helps, and even if they don’t, ask!
Bringing it all Together...
It always helps to have a clear idea in your mind as to what you want whether it’s Vintage Glamour of the 1950’s, Classic Beauty or even Rock-Chick Bride it’s imperative to theme everything into one complete look. The hairdresser will be inspired by the dress, so if you can show them a picture when you start planning your wedding this will guarantee the right hair for the day.

Planning The Big Day...
Don’t be frightened to ask the wedding team you have chosen to speak to each other to ensure that everything runs smoothly. If the wedding stylist/make-up is coming to your home, which is quite common, allow for travel time and some overlap. The photographer usually wants you for at least half an hour before you get in the car so this will need factoring in along with the last minute panic of finding your missing keys!
As for colours, always ask your stylist - and if it is a new salon they should always do a sensitivity test prior to any colour being applied for the first time.
The Night Before...
Check with your wedding hairdresser, but the rule is usually that you would wash your hair the day before your wedding and then just go straight into the up-do, as it is known, as freshly washed hair is hard to work with.
And Finally, On The Day Itself...
Our experience in organising weddings, shows and photo shoots has taught us one thing... plan and plan again! Check lists, diaries whatever it takes because once done it means that you can then get up on the morning of your wedding day knowing everything is in place and you trust your team to do their job as professionals. Now you can relax and really enjoy your wedding day - which is what it is all about.
